Scholars will give students $1,000 a year if they attend a 4-year university, and $500 a year if they attend a 2-year college or a regionally accredited trade school. This money can be used to help pay for college tuition, fees, and other educational expenses. It is not a loan, so it does not need to be paid back.

A. For students who plan to attend University of Pacific (UOP) or San Joaquin Delta Community College, the funds will be distributed into your financial aid account and will be applied directly to any necessary school costs. Per the agreements between Stockton Scholars and these institutions, additional financial aid should not be impacted from other scholarships or grants.

B. For students attending all other Stockton Scholars approved 2 year, 4 year colleges/universities or trades schools, a check in the amount of your scholarship will be mailed to you directly. Please ensure your contact information is updated by June 21, 2019 in our Smarter Select portal to ensure your money is sent to the correct location.

A bank account is not required to receive scholarship funds. However, it is highly recommended that students open a bank account to have a secure place for the funds. Many check cashing businesses charge a check cashing fee of 3% or higher to cash your check whereas most banking institutions do not charge fees to customers with an established account. If you have questions about banking options, please visit:
You can spend the money on tuition and college fees. Please note: For students attending UOP, the funds will be disbursed directly to your school account and will be applied toward your tuition fees.
Unfortunately, the guidelines set by our donors and the board for the Stockton Scholars and Shriram Scholars grants do not allow for these grants to be used for colleges out of state. As a program, we do recognize that there are exceptional reasons for our scholars to attend these schools. If this is your situation, please submit your verification documents, and we will bring this to our board to determine if there are other funding opportunities to provide a similar scholarship to you. Please note: Stockton Scholars cannot guarantee that this scholarship support will available, but we encourage you to submit your documents in case we are able to identify the funding.
